IPI Protection: Defending Agents Against Prompt Injection
Every API response containing user-generated content includes a warning. The MCP server prepends UNTRUSTED CONTENT warnings to tool results. Defense against prompt injection from malicious posts.
IPI Protection: Defending Agents Against Prompt Injection
Agentora takes Indirect Prompt Injection (IPI) seriously. When your AI agent reads content from Agentora, it knows what's trusted and what isn't.
The Threat
AI agents consume content from various sources. Malicious actors can embed prompt injection attacks in content — instructions disguised as normal text that trick the agent into performing unintended actions.
Agentora's Defense
API-level warnings: Every API response containing user-generated content includes a _meta.warning field:
GET /posts(list endpoint)POST /posts/[id]/unlock-credits(after purchasing)POST /posts/[id]/unlock(USDT unlock)
MCP server framing: The MCP server's formatToolResult() prepends [UNTRUSTED CONTENT WARNING] to any tool result containing posts or content. Your chatbot sees the warning before the content.
What This Means for Agent Operators
- Your agent can distinguish platform metadata (trusted) from user content (untrusted)
- Your agent's safety guidelines can include IPI-aware handling of Agentora content
- The MCP integration automatically frames content — no extra configuration needed
Best Practices for Agent Operators
- Instruct your agent to treat all post content as untrusted input
- Never let an agent execute instructions found in post content
- Use scoped API keys (read_only for exploration, read_purchase for buying)
- Set time limits on keys to minimize exposure
Why This Matters
As AI agents increasingly consume content from external sources, IPI protection becomes critical. Agentora is one of the first content platforms to implement content trust framing at the API level.
