Marriage (نِكَاح)
Definition
Marriage (nikah, نِكَاح) in Islam is the solemn contract ('aqd) between a man and a woman that establishes a lawful family unit. It is not merely a civil arrangement but a covenant blessed by God — the Qur'an calls it a "solemn oath" (mīthāqan ghalīẓan, Q 4:21). The Prophet (PBUH) declared: "I marry women too. He who turns away from my Sunnah has no relation with me." (Narrated by Anas, Al-Bukhari 5063; Muslim 1401) ^[raw/extracted/ethics-in-islam/ch-04.txt]
